Sunday 8th July 2012

The Darling Buds Classic Car Show is presented by the Rover P5 Alive Club and will be held on Sunday 8th July, 2012 from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm at Buss Farm, which can be found just off the Pluckley Road in Bethersden, near Ashford in the heart of Kent in the UK.
All pre-1980 makes and models of classic cars, their owners, enthusiasts and members of the public are cordially invited to a “perfick” family day out with a warm, friendly atmosphere.
The venue has ample public car parking and gates open at 9.00 am.
An estimated 900+ classic vehicles are expected at this year`s show, making it one of Kent’s most popular annual events.
This exclusive location was used in the making of Yorkshire Television`s well-known series “The Darling Buds of May” and is the only time that the farm is open to the public. This year`s show will include Pop Larkin`s yellow Rolls Royce,a classic baby carriage display, childrens` rides, live music, autojumble and craft stalls, food for all tastes, a visit by the Kent Air Ambulance helicopter (operational circumstances permitting), plus a licensed bar.
Throughout the day there will be arena displays of exhibitors` vehicles, with a live commentary.
A special nostalgic exhibit is a 40 year old restored classic - not a car, but a “little” treat for historic computer buffs - a massive restored and working ICT 1301 main-frame computer from the 1960`s, which occupies a whole barn, answers to the name of Flossie and is believed to be the only functional machine of its type in the world.
Exhibitors` entry fee is just £3.00 for pre-booked classic cars or £7.00 on the day.
More information and an entry form is available on our website.
Public admission is £12.00 per. car. This includes show entry for all occupants and parking.
Thank you for your support. To date, you have helped us donate over £64,000 to the Kent Air Ambulance and cancer-related charities. This year we are also continuing to support Demelza House, a local childrens' hospice.

I`ve been involved with the show for about sixteen years - ever since it started, in fact. It is, quite simply, for charity. All surplus funds over and above that required to actually run the show go to The Kent Air Ambulance which is a registered charity that receives no government funding (www.kentairambulance.co.uk) and a cancer-related charity that varies from year to year. For 2010 and 2011 we also supported Demelza House, a local children's hospice (www.demelza.org.uk)
The 2010 show raised over £14,000, which was a real record-breaker for us, with over 1000 classic vehicles attending on a brilliant summer's day. Unfortunately, the 2011 show was beset with intermittent rain showers for the first time ever, which cut the overall attendance down a bit, which obviously reduced the amount raised. However, we still managed to donate £6000. We have achieved over £64,000 to date.
My part in the event is connected (pun intended!) with the public address gear. In other words, I twiddle the knobs! I also have a large collection of nostalgic sound clips (old commercials, TV themes, snippets of old programmes, etc.) that we play to add to the nostalgic atmosphere and use for competitions. Not rocket science, but it`s good fun. I am also involved in the publicity.
The more folk we can encourage to come (both public and exhibitors), the more money we can put into our charity pot, so, all you UK people reading this, come along, have a good day out and contribute to some very worthwhile causes at the same time!!
